Bilgeman has some insight (as if we didn't know...)
Sinner:Bilgeman has a great point here. In one post the person is polite, spells well and is clear in what he wants to say (as well as deadly), the other is Dr. Deb.
Compare this:"Having been told once that this is not the place for her sophomoric political rants, Deborah Frisch continues to use this listserv for that purpose. Please ban her from this list or unsubscribe me. If I want to read idiotic opinions about the Middle East I can go to her blog. This is a forum for the discussion of science, not politics. At least, it used to be.With this:
Prof. Daniel Gilbert
Department of Psychology""ephu, danny.
EPHU 2, osama bin graham! you're a harvard man 2, right?
helpful hint 4 po email@example.com@cambridge.m'ass:
touch base with carstensen, shafir or lee ross."
Which example is the exemplary mode of how an educated person tells a pest to "Fuck Off"?
And she wonders why she didn't make tenure...
Sishter Frischter 'splains:"Ooh. Danny Gilbert, a pompous, sexist, pudgy but curiously popular psychology prof at the disgusting cesspool of sexism and academentia formerly known as hahvad university,"
Dr. Deb also gives us a textbook example of defamation (Denny please check me on this). Since I don't know Dr. (?) Gilbert, I (as a reasonable man) might assume him to be "pompous, sexist, pudgy", but I can't be used to prove this case because I know the character of the speaker.
Super Secret message to Dr. Deb: I base my opinion of your character on the fact that we both know you have seen the demand for an apology and yet it does not come. I would gladly retract anything about this if you would provide said apology.
Update: As usual, a commenter at Dr. Deb's make way more sense than the hostess:
Are you REALLY trying to pick a fight with these guys? Do you never want to work in academia again? I guess not.Maybe I don't need to do this anymore...

Update II: In the comments, Denny explains more about defamation and generally infers "Sinner, don't quit your day job".
