Is it me or is John Cole taking a slap at us?
However, it is abundantly clear to me that she has a number of mental problems, and I don’t like the glee I see in many of the posts flaming her. She is a sad character, and she needs our sympathy and our help- not to be poked, prodded, and taunted.Is that what we he sees here or am I hyper-sensitive? If that is indeed what we seem to be about, we need to correct that perception post-haste.
Of course, if you are judged by the quality of your detractors, I feel pretty good...
I do agree with this:
Hopefully, she will one day get over her problems, regret what she has done, and come to terms with her behavior and once again take up a productive role in society.I know some here scoff at this, but I have always pressed for her to get help and take up some productive vocation that does not include contact with youth.

Agreed, Sinner. I have no desire to ruin this woman's life (she was on that road long before any of us knew her name).
I think of her more like someone suffering from hypothermia, who must be kept (in this case, rendered) conscious, to save her from her instincts. Beating her like a rented mule with her own words and actions may make her mad, but it prevents her from staying complacent.
Right now, she's probably furious. I would be too, in her place. Interventions are a butt-chapper at the time. But when she looks back on the life she escaped (assuming she does), she may even be grateful.

I'm not without compassion but truly, this woman has shown an arrogance beyond her pathology. Without knowing a thing about her, I feel safe in presuming she really does believe she's an elite. She's been told that all her life, by parents, by the academy. And then, over a decade ago, she was denied tenure; someone finally told her, "Lady, you're really not all that."
Well, I grew up learning that life isn't always easy or fair, and failure is always one misstep away. She may think she's farting Chanel No. 5, but that's because someone has always been around her whispering how sweet it was. Now, she's got no one to talk to but the mirror -- and the Internet.
She's socially maladroit, sure. She has no tools for adapting outside the echo chamber that was her life pre-blog, granted.
Less and less do I think she is mentally ill, but rather that she is attempting a scam that she is incompetent to execute.
She thrashes and flails about looking for a way to join the mainstream, but her very nature prevents her success.
Think I'm wrong? Remember her post asking Jeff to join her on the political talkshow rounds *** after JG filed for the TRO?! She's not ill, she's just socially myopic.

As a long-time reader but not participant, I think there's the germ of a real issue there. I don't see any sign that Frisch is mentally ill -- merely breathtakingly arrogant and possibly with a substance-abuse problem. I don't see her as funny but as extremely vicious and nasty -- thinking back to her original comments on Goldstein's son and on Froggy's tribute to Marc Lee. That being said, taunting her and trying to provoke her into more "crazy" behavior, treating her as geek entertainment, seems inconsistent with DHD's purpose. Remember, we don't know whether or not she's actually dangerous to other people. And it could, indeed, mislead newcomers about who is the real bully here. Better to take the high road.
She's psychotic. Trust me, I've seen her wild eyes wide open & rolling while she frothed like a wild stallion on the plain called Free Speech Plaza! She is not sane, she is not acting. If you believe that, you have no idea the value of the career she threw away. No sane person would choose the crushing black hole of Teh WTF vodka-&-blades crayzee cycle over a chance of being a star in one of brightest constellations in the scientific universe.
Attempts are being made to help her. Despite her nastiness, people still care for her. Many of her former peers are, after all, psychologists.
That reminds me. Didn't someone look up the information on her property? Can someone link me to the publically available information on it, i.e., the tax id number, the acreage, etc.?

On the other hand, a couple of days ago, someone else here in Eugene saw her in his place of business and reported that she acted pretty much like a normal person, bought something, paid for it with a credit card, and left without incident. That suggests she can turn off "teh crazee" when she needs to get things done.
I see the same thing on her blog. One post, she sounds like an unhinged squatter in an AOL juvenile chatroom, and the next, she's writing at the college thesis level with letter-perfect spelling and punctuation.
I used to think Deb was simply psychotic, but I've seen too many of what appear to be deliberately calculated actions on her part which make me wonder. What she is is full of rage (and its ugly stepsister, hatred) and she finds it very easy (and fun!) to give in to the rage, to let the beast loose, even when you get burned, as her current legal problems attest.
Okay, Tuna. Regarding the NSF job: I think those proposal-money dishing posts are temporary. You sign on to do the job for one or two years, then it's over (unless they want to keep you on & you choose to stay). I think I saw where she referred to the NSF gig as a temp one. There's no firing, no "retiring."
I looked at the property. Five acres, $2K property taxes per year. It's hidden out in a very rural spot that has grown without any real smart planning--willy nilly as developers push their way through the undergrowth & machete the thick red tape.
It's in her name. Mortgage info N/A. Nice spot to go crazy.

Thanks for the comment. I often do think that DHD is spinning out of control, but then the fun of community hits me and I feel better.
The real truth AFAICS is that DHD is right on mission. The humor is healthy for the community and helps make the medicine go down a bit easier. It is much better for someone coming here from a Google search see the lighthearted nature of most of the VBSers and read through all the issues related to hiring Dr. Deb.
Having said that, everyone here has his or her own reasons for being a fan of this site. Some are here for the VBS community, some are here to gawk at "teh crazy" and, yes, some are here to cause trouble/push her over the edge. I encourage the first two types; the last gets no support from me, but are just as welcome as anyone else.
I allow all comments, I have deleted only one comment, very early, and I wish I hadn't done that. It is hard to control an open and accepting community (can you say “herding cats”), but there is no other way. I refuse to be a comment cop or scold. I am certainly not going to stoop to Dr. Deb's level and moderate comments. I don't want to spend my life reading comments and deciding if they are appropriate. Regardless of what she thinks, I have a great life and this is not going to intrude.
I hope this clears up some of your concerns.
