I wonder who she will blame for her evil deeds next?

I guess it will be Blogger for allowing this and other blogs to post about her.

At 10:36 PM, Blogger Retired Fireman said...

Without help and medicine on a continuing basis, it never gets better...only increasingly worse over time. The psychosis is permanent. The trouble with medication, though, is the patient will start feeling better..normal, so they stop medicating thinking they don't need it. Soon they start self-medicating again, and Teh Cycle starts over anew.

At 10:38 PM, Blogger Petrarchan Motif said...

Hose - I hear what you're saying about Deb maybe being a user, but to me, I don't see it. She makes bad decisions, and exercises bad judgment because of a she's disconnected from the image of how another person might see those actions.

Joe had some good points the other night about the studies on teenagers' brains, how they weren't fully developed in the center of the brain where empathy rsides. Lack of empathy, really, is what cause a lot of a-hole behavior. The less developed your empathy, the bigger an a-hole you are.

At 10:40 PM, Blogger Petrarchan Motif said...

At 10:43 PM, Blogger Retired Fireman said...

"With chronic use, tolerance for methamphetamine can develop. In an effort to intensify the desired effects, users may take higher doses of the drug, take it more frequently, or change their method of drug intake. In some cases, abusers forego food and sleep while indulging in a form of binging known as a "run," injecting as much as a gram of the drug every 2 to 3 hours over several days until the user runs out of the drug or is too disorganized to continue. Chronic abuse can lead to psychotic behavior, characterized by intense paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and out-of-control rages that can be coupled with extremely violent behavior.

Long-term effects can include:
Dependence and addiction psychosis
paranoia
hallucinations
mood disturbances
repetitive motor activity
Stroke
Weight loss "

Yup. Going off the meds is especially common in the "bi Polar" crowd.

At 10:46 PM, Blogger Retired Fireman said...

They have to be continually monitored and tested for Lithium levels in their blood. As soon as they feel better, they think they don't need the meds and are done with all the hassel, go off it and start Teh Cycle all over again.

Each succesive time, however, is generally worse.

Okay, now I'm really going to bed, but just had to say one thing about James' post about that Jones guy from BYU. I hate that guy, and so does Caltech. Idiot.

Alright, physics hulk done smashing, hulk sit down, hulk go to sleep, zzzz...

At 10:47 PM, Blogger Petrarchan Motif said...

Hose - she's generically near those meth user symptoms, but she's not there.

What she needs isn't "talking therapy", but a lot of hours of community service with hands on work with less fortunate people. Battered woman's shelter, homeless shelter, Special Olympics. Something to connect her to a broad range of people and in such close proximity that she can't just wish them away and not think about their humanity in connection with her own.

Hose - it may be gratifying to know she is reduced to manual labor as punishment, but if she wants to get better, that would only fuel resentment and isolation. Hawksp - Yes, about Yates, she was extremely isolated raising those kids. Having kids all around you doesn't mean you have peers all around you. "Loneliness of command" kind of thing.

Hose - naw, I know you're just exaggerating. I can see how manual labor could lead to humility.

At 11:05 PM, Blogger Petrarchan Motif said...

BrendaK - talking about Yates with Hawksp, yep.

At 11:07 PM, Blogger BrendaK said...

Yates - knew what she was doing was wrong, chased one of her kids down. Should rot in prison.

Yates husband - knew there were serious problems and kept piling on. Insisted she homeschool and ordered her to keep having more/more/more kids. Should rot in prison.

Special Deb - no conscience, so no empathy development. But the orange suit she'll wear while picking up garbage on the roadside might shake her into at least keeping her mouth shut.

And Hawksp - Aw, I was just giving you a practice round. Whenever you're ready, you let me know *heh*

Hawk -

Yes, I consider what she did nuts in the sense that "she's a total nutcase". I also think she met the legal definition of sane.

sbh - 'sokay. Edward Abbey does have the label of ecoterrorist attached to him, so any fans of his are going to be sensitive to that.

My extremely limited exposure to addicts has been horrible, scary and looked more like madness than anything I could imagine. Your son sounds like a functioning and non-destructive person, and that is not the kind person I'm talking about.

It was never my intention to sound like I thought all drug users should be shot on sight.

And, hey, I ate the brownies, right?

You folks are hilarious. Seriously misguided but very funny. And Bendak I never claimed to be a southerner. I can't stand the south. What I am is a chap derived from a seriously long line of white trash. We hail from the Arkansas and Oklahoma areas and I too am a military brat so we have a lot in common. Except of course that I get quoted on the front page of this here site and call you on your sneering about the proper way to spell slang words. And you seem to coo a lot over all the big boys who hang here.

sbh -

You can use y'all. Everyone should use y'all. But no one should claim to be a Southerner and not be able to spell it correctly.

I just don't much care for liars, and I absolutely believe that troll-bo came on this site specifically to antagonize and was not truthful about his regional history.

Why anyone would lie about that kind of thing is beyond me, but there you go.

At 11:35 PM, Blogger filch said...

Beau wasn't lieing in any way shape or form. Geesh anyone who thinks they can derive regional dialects from written text on the internet has a serious screw loose.

It is so interesting that you hate an entire part of the country. Did we all make fun of you in high school, or what?

And yes, you bet I coo at them. I like and admire them. I also like and admire the women who are regulars here.

You caught me, absolutely.

At 11:38 PM, Blogger BrendaK said...

Is anyone at all here but me and filch?

At 11:38 PM, Blogger filch said...

And I already told you sweetums in my house we spelt it yall. We didn't need no damn '. Course we never wrote the damn word down except when morons wondered what we were saying.

Sorry but it's not all about you dear. I hate the south for the same reason I hate the east: too much damn humidity. But you just keep thinking it's about you.

Brenda,
My oldest son takes a prescribed schedule II drug - a mixture of stereoisomers of amphetamine. He has ADHD and this drug allows him to stop and consider what is going on around him, rather than just reacting to it.

filch -

This one is just for YOU!

That would be lying and spelled.

There you go, no charge, glad to be of assistance.

Run along, hon, you are out of your league here.

I personally think it is all about Brenda.

And that's fine by me. (except when she says my brownies are "seedy")

At 11:42 PM, Blogger filch said...

Yes because I come here to practice my spelling. Thanks!!!

Whole different matter. I'm so glad that works for him. I've only known one person with ADHD and it was a such misery for him until he was old enough to take medicine.

It made a world of difference for him, too.

I was specifically talking about the people addicted to street drugs. I honestly wish I could find more compassion for them, but...it is a prejudice on my part.

At 11:46 PM, Blogger filch said...

That's okay Bendak your prejudices are hanging out all over the place.

Really, if you are attempting to insult me you are fighting a losing battle. I would have to respect your opinion in order to be insulted by it.

Checking...checking...nope, no respect for you here.

Brenda,
I understand completely. It's just somewhat of a sore point with me.
A: Drugs are bad.
P: No they aren't
A: Yes, they are!
P: No, drugs gave my father-in-law another 7 years of life and allowed him to know another two of his grandkids.
A: That's not what I meant.
P: But that's what you said. If you didn't mean it - don't say it.

We need to separate use from abuse; good from bad; and it starts with language.

At 11:55 PM, Blogger Cthulhu said...

and what a loverly pair of prejudices they are, my dear.
