I am considering moving this blog to Blogsome because of my frustration with Blogger and now some comments that smilies and such in the comments.

Check out my personal blog for a feature preview.

What do you think? Would you follow?

This thread is ONLY for discussion of a possible move. Previous open thread for normal DHD silliness serious discussion of issues.

Update: Looks like a resounding YES, now taking suggestions for names.

is that a serious question? we'll follow you anywhere!

I'll go where ever the trainwreck takes me.

Wherever you move the blog to, the attraction is Frisch.

As long as she freaks, they will find the midway.

At 8:35 AM, Blogger Fatwa Arbuckle said...

G'mornin', peeps.

Sinner -

Put me down as an "aye" regarding the move if that's what you want to do.

[Knock! Knock! Knock!]

[Door creaks open]

"Hi! I'm your new neighbor, Sinner. Would you mind terribly if I borrowed a cup of bandwidth?"

At 8:46 AM, Blogger Ducky said...

G'morning! Did I hear somebody say "Road Trip?" My bags are packed, ready to move to new location!

At 9:31 AM, Blogger Mariposa said...

I'll go too if it moves. My only suggestion is to keep this site up with a link to the new one. Otherwise this name will be ripe for cyber-squatting. I've seen it happen to too many blogs that shut down.

At 10:19 AM, Blogger Fred the Genius said...

Will I still get to pretend I'm a genius? Or will I be forced to adopt a less esoteric identity?

Like Fred the Schmuck, God forbid.

At 10:55 AM, Blogger Sulla said...

yep, i'd follow.

At 10:56 AM, Blogger Sulla said...

a follow-up thought.

What if we left this place as a focused "Don't hire Deb" information clearing house, and moved to a new location for Tricksy VBS gerbil fun?

At 11:39 AM, Blogger Mariposa said...

Per Sulla's suggestion- the tricksy VBS Gerbil fun could even go to more of a bulletin board set up from one of the free hosting services (like bravenet)

At 12:20 PM, Blogger joeschmo1of3 said...

Of course I'd follow, but some notes of caution before making the move.

-Does Blogsome support avatars as easily as Blogger? We would lose a lot of the humor of our sockpuppeting if it did not.

-How easy would it be transfer the posts and comments over there? Plus, the new blogger is still in beta, so there might be complications from that.

So, that's all, otherwise I'm not married to staying at blogger at all.

At 12:26 PM, Blogger Serenity said...

Ok..over the summer I went out and got some sort of life so I missed all of this until today. (That is not supposed to be an insult to anyone.)

Anyway, I have spent today following links of blog wars and ended up on this one. Have read psycho's homepage and then came here to read. I scanned here...and maybe I missed it...but has anyone noticed that this freak calls her home "Camp Kazynksi" ?????

And that she considers herself "just to the right of Kazyinksi" ??? (However you spell his name.)

Certifiable nut job!

At 1:12 PM, Blogger SouthernFriedYankee said...

I'm in as well. You guys kill me!
I haven't had a lot of time lately,

Ok, I will not follow you to AOL. That's final. Anything else is fine with me!

At 3:08 PM, Blogger Sinner said...

Joe's point on avatars is very valid. I will do some research and see if the system supports that before committing.

Sulla's suggestion of building this address into the original DHD mission, i.e. just the facts maam is a very good one. I will set up an autoforward here for a while then move to the info clearinghouse.

Any suggestions on the new name?

I'll throw out

At 3:17 PM, Blogger Petrarchan Motif said...

Sinner - how about Just feels right to me.

At 3:59 PM, Blogger Religious Zealot said...

I would like to add and expand Sulla's suggestion for having the new blog have a "different" focus.

As has been noted, in a very real, pratical sense, DHD IS a redundent "service." Deb has done a much, much better job in ensuring that no one will ever hire her.

That does NOT mean that the original purpose was "wrong" or even "misplaced." I feel it is important to ensure, as much as possible, that Deb (at least until she begins recovery) is kept away from molding young minds.

But even this purpose may be coming to an end fairly shortly.

Combine this with the growth of a real "culture" here, and all of it points to a need to re-vision our purpose.

I wonder if we should keep the initials (DHD) and maybe broaden our focus (Don't Hire Deadbeats) and keep note on various academics (Ward Churchill, etc.)

Or maybe it can just be a "clearing house" for different thoughts.

In might behoove us to keep in mind that most of us here (not all, but most) are conservative, patriotic, intelligent and religious.

So maybe a focus that includes that.

Just food for thought.

At 4:08 PM, Blogger BrendaK said...

This was originally just an idea to move out of blogspot for a more stable web environment.

I like that idea. The rest can grow as we do.

Is just my opinion.

At 4:28 PM, Blogger BrendaK said...

I should clarify - I love that every/anyone can come and chat, start a pissing contest, get technical info, pass on profound knowledge, post poetry that is serious or otherwise, whatever.

I think sinner and sulla have done a fine job of herding the cats.

It's kind of the Wild Wild West of the innertubes and I like the inclusiveness and free-flow environment.

Hey...I have good news...

Decreased the use and need for certain pain killers today. YAY...kess poison in my system attacking my liver

At 5:00 PM, Blogger Hosedragger said...

Is this thing on?

(thunk thunk thunk *snap*)

Uh oh...

It was like that when I got here. I swear!!!!

At 5:06 PM, Blogger SBH said...

Hose, that is good news! The relief from painkillers is a wonderful thing but I hate the feeling of missing out on stuff.

At 5:10 PM, Blogger SBH said...

I'm with freewheeling focus on the blog. I like that we can talk politics or religion but that we don't have to. And if it gets too ponderous someone will pull out a trout and apply some point of focus correction.

I'm cereal.

At 5:10 PM, Blogger SBH said...

As I have mentioned before, being an apostate is hard work.

Tricksy Gerbils, rule!

At 5:12 PM, Blogger Fatwa Arbuckle said...

Hose -

Glad to hear that; now you can get back to abusing your liver in more pleasant ways.

At 5:19 PM, Blogger Hosedragger said...

What is wrong with the direction of the blog? If it is only focused on one thing, then it will become as boring as a lecture on decision making.

The free flow of ideas, and the fact that each and every time it is done it has been with great respect of the people and their individual thoughts and beliefs, is one of the ways this is rapidly becoming on of the best blogs on the internet.

There is a very old saying which must apply to this blog, and it's future incarnation at another area...

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

At 5:19 PM, Blogger Hawksp said...

that is good news about the pain-killer.

You beat me to my suggestion, so let me second the Gerbilcage.

I love the fact that it was supposed to be an insult from Chell, but we just picked up the ball and ran with it.

Blue 42
Blue 42
Hut, Hut

Sinner, I like vbs in there somewhere also but I'm thinking about a kids googling VBS seriously and getting this wacky crew.

And Bilge, Do I smell a mutiny?

(In Sam the Eagle Voice)

Shame on you mister.

At 5:36 PM, Blogger Hosedragger said...

However, the number for the DNC, or Psychology Dept. of U of O Eugene would have worked just as well

At 5:41 PM, Blogger Hawksp said...

Telling someone what to put on their pizza-pie is like talking politics or religion. It could start a fight. You better do it by yourself. I will recommend a crust, pizza sause and some kind of cheese device, but the rest is up to you.

At 5:42 PM, Blogger Hawksp said...

At 5:42 PM, Blogger Hosedragger said...

I went with a "Mexican Taco" from "Pizza Guys"

At 5:47 PM, Blogger BrendaK said...

Hose -

Good news! And you sure are chipper this evening. Found the coffee, or just happy?

Hawk -

You're funny too.

ok, I'm going back to the thread before this one before sinner slaps us with a large and smelly piscine bit.

At 5:49 PM, Blogger Hawksp said...

Never heard of Pizza Guys.

At 6:20 PM, Blogger Mariposa said...

I'm going to second the gerbilcage suggestion. It's different than what I proposed, but it has gerbils in it AND is actually better!

At 7:03 PM, Blogger SouthernFriedYankee said...

I also like the gerbilcage.
Will gerbils follow their leader

like those squeaky wheely things.

At 9:21 PM, Blogger Ducky said...

Love the idea of gerbil in the name but wonder if this might lead to our site popping up for kids and teachers who are keeping gerbils as pets?

Sorry I don't have an alternate idea at the moment although a lame joke comes to mind along these lines:

SON of Don't Hire . . etc.

OK not funny . . .

gorgeous day in Oregon - big sun (never get tired of cameo appearances by big sun) really, really warm and an amazing sunset!

off to family movie night - looking forward to checking back in the morning.
